Micaela the founder of MEEKA had the privilege of witnessing one of her best friends get married in Athens, and of course we made sure she did it in MEEKA style. Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship?
Marc works in investment banking for an international bank, and I work remotely in the design industry, focusing on strategic growth. Exploring new places fuels our shared passion for travel, and nothing beats the joy of connecting over a meal – it's one of our favorite pastimes. What's quite unique about our relationship is how it all began. We didn't dive straight into dating; instead, we built a strong foundation as friends over a few years, which has made our connection really special.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details.
When it came to our wedding, I had a really relaxed approach to the décor. Our venue's breath-taking view of the Aegean Riviera was the star, so we didn’t need to do much. Not one for tradition, I opted for a vibrant fuchsia theme, inspired by the hues of Grecian bourgaveilleas. That lively shade popped up everywhere, from the flowers to bridesmaid dresses. A cute touch was the mini ouzo bottle display, a fun table-finder that doubled up as a wedding favour. And it kicked off the party just right! Yet, the standout for me at my wedding was my beautiful retinue. Having the absolute best girls by my side was the icing on the cake. Tell us a little about your main outfits for the wedding day.
Comfort was really important to me! I wore MEEKA's beautiful Gia Bridal Silk Satin Mini Dress paired with the super glamorous Chiara Feather Silk Satin Robe in White. My wedding dress was from Olya Mak, and my shoes from the Greek brand, MIGATO. Fun fact, even though my wedding dress came with an overskirt, I decided to ditch it on the day. It felt a bit too over-the-top and didn't feel like "me". I'm glad I went with my gut. Marc looked so handsome in his beautiful, tailor-made linen suit from House of Crouse
Any advice you would like to give to future brides & best money spent?
Marc and I, self-proclaimed foodies, placed a huge emphasis on the food for our wedding – it was all about throwing an epic PORTUGREEK bash. Of course, keeping the alcohol flowing was a must for the festivities. While flowers can be a splurge, they really transformed the venue into a romantic wonderland. The combination of flowers, candles, and fairy lights set a magical vibe, and I'm really glad we made that a priority. We initially cut a few elements we loved to keep costs in check, but our amazing wedding planners surprised us by gifting us with those touches, making it extra special!
Any advice you would like to give to future brides?
The whole idea that wedding days are incredibly stressful and anxiety-inducing doesn't have to be the norm. At its core, a wedding is a celebration of love between two people. The key is to stay true to your own desires and not worry about pleasing or impressing others. After all, it's a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience. People will always have their opinions, so it's best to create a day that truly reflects who you are.
