Another Meeka wedding for '23.

We followed the beautiful Dani & her bridal party all the way to South Africa to get a sneak peek into her gorgeous wedding. Dani and her bridesmaids all got ready for the wedding in our White & Nude Camillo Robes.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, and what is unique about you and your relationship.

I, Dani, have my own business selling dog grooming products called FURR Collective and my husband Alex works in financial services. We both love to travel, are big foodies, and are pet pawrents to our beloved pug, Milly.
I grew up down the road from where Alex would come with his family to stay in Cape Town - to say it’s convenient when we’re both there would be an understatement and it truly felt like fate when we met!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling, and some of your favorite details.

Our wedding was at Johannesdal, in the Winelands just outside of Stellenbosch in Cape Town. The space is so beautiful with incredible mountain vaping, so we wanted our wedding to reflect that and not take away from its natural beauty. Our aesthetic was “boho spring garden”.
The wedding showcased spring colours (rust, yellow, pale pink, and gold) with bohemian inspiration and textures of coloured glass with elements of wood and rattan.
One of my favourite details included our grounded floral arch at the ceremony,y complimented the mountain backdrop. Reusing those florals in our reception area after was a great way to save costs. We also had a cute Photo Booth area which was a fun moment in our reception area. Our tables were also named after our family dog breeds which was a cute way to bring our love for animals into the wedding for a personal touch.

How did you spend the morning of your wedding? How did you deal with the nerves leading up to the wedding?

Alex and I did our own personal vows and got them beautifully printed from this business on Etsy and the morning of the wedding we sat outside and read our vows. It was a super special and emotional moment that we had together before going our separate ways.
My bridesmaids then all arrived and we had breakfast and started getting ready. I made sure to have a few moments to myself before getting changed into my dress to just acknowledge what an exciting moment it was.
Planning a wedding is a lot of work - especially if you have a specific vision in mind but I really tried to just enjoy the last few weeks and not put too much pressure on myself as everything comes together in the end and the lead-up to it is just as exciting!

Tell us about your main outfits for the wedding day.

My wedding dress was super special because I had the dressmaker who did all my dance dresses growing up in Cape Town make it and we brought fabric from Joel & Sons in London so it was great bringing together both where I live now and where I grew up.
My bridesmaids had a colour palette (rust, cinnamon and gold) and each selected a style based on the colour tone.

Are there any areas of your wedding that you wish you would/would not have splurged on?

I wouldn’t change a thing about our wedding. Because half of our guests traveled from the UK, we did organise various events leading up to the big day for those who wanted to join which was so fun. I highly recommend it if you are having a wedding abroad as people have taken the time and spent the money to come to the wedding. We did a sundowner drinks the night before our wedding which was so special and something we decided on later in the wedding planning process but everyone loved having that evening before to get to know everyone and for us, it was great because the day flies by so at there was less pressure on us the day of to ensure we speak to every single guest.

Any advice you would like to give to future brides?

Something will go wrong on the wedding day (if not more than one thing) and I think it’s best to not sweat it and just take each moment in and not worry when things go wrong. You spend so much time planning it and when it comes to the day - just enjoy it and let everyone else take care of things.
